Frequently Asked Questions

Will these Hotends actually reduce my print time?
Print time reduction is affected by many variables, including the part you are wanting to print. In most cases using our premade slicer profiles you should see a decrease in print time – however if you are printing very small detailed models with little to no infill you may not see a dramatic decrease in print time as we prioritise maintaining high visual quality in the outside perimeters.

Should I choose the ObXidian version or the DiamondBack version?
It comes down to a question of longevity and intended use case. The ObXidian High Flow Hotend is fantastic for light to moderate use with filaments with aggressive fillers such as Carbon Fibre and Glass fibre. The DiamondBack version is unlikely to see wear in the printer's lifespan. It’s a great choice for printing primarily with aggressive-filled filaments 24/7, therefore giving you peace of mind, a true set-and-forget Hotend!

Will this nozzle ever wear?
Yes, given enough time these Hotends may exhibit wear, but will do so considerably slower than a hardened steel nozzle. Wear resistance is difficult to quantify due to the numerous variables involved, including base polymer, additive, brand, temperature, and print speed.

Does this void my warranty with Bambu?
No, Bambu Lab have collaborated with E3D throughout the development of this product and has officially approved the use of these HotEnds.

Can I still print with normal filament like PLA?
Absolutely! Even using the standard Bambu Lab print profiles, you will notice more visual consistency due to improved thermal performance and flow boosting, enabling you to have stronger, better-looking parts.

Are these Hotends compatible with the BambuLab H2 Series printers?
No, they are only compatible with the A1 and A1 Mini.

 Important Notes

  • ObXidian™ nozzles are exceptionally wear resistant compared to other products on the market and significantly outperform other hardened nozzles. Improvements in ‘exotic’ engineering filaments mean that some new materials which include aggressive fillers, including but not limited to Polymaker’s Fiberon range (PA612-CF, PA6-CF, PA6-GF and PA12-CF), can cause significant wear on even ObXidian™ nozzles. For these types of materials we recommend a DiamondBack hotend.
  • Some filled materials contain particles that are close to, if not larger than, some of the smaller industry standard nozzle sizes, including up to 0.4mm. Attempting to print such materials through these nozzle sizes significantly increases the risk of a jam. Please check your filament manufacturer’s datasheet for recommended minimum nozzle orifice diameter to ensure that the nozzle/HotEnd you choose is suitable for your use case.
  • On the A1 and A1 Mini 45mm3/s is the maximum volumetric flow rate possible for a 0.4mm nozzle under E3D’s test conditions. This is derived from the maximum motion system speed of an A1 printer (500mm/s), a track width of 0.5mm and a layer height of 0.2mm (both of which are kept constant for all 0.4mm tests). Increasing the commanded flow rate above this value has no effect as the speed is restricted by the motion limit of the machine.
  • These Hotends are not compatible with the Bambu Lab H2 Series printers.
  • Actual time savings that you will see will impacted by the print settings used, combined with the print design itself.
